The Hero’s Journey Contract
The Basics:
For 30 completed days, you will focus on:
• Daily Endeavors (Mandatory)
• Weekly Endeavor (Mandatory)
• 3–5 Personal Adventures (Self-Selected)
If you fail an endeavor or an adventure, you will add 1 day of effort. It could take you 50 days or more to complete the 30 successful days. If you fail an Adventure 2 days in a row, you will remove that adventure from your Journey. Below are listed the endeavors and adventures.
DAILY ENDEAVORS
An endeavor is an earnest and industrious effort. These are Mandatory.
1. Morning Grounding
Wake 1 hour before the household
No phone for at least 1 hour upon waking, preferably 2.
This time includes one or more of: Reading, Writing, Reciting your commitment
2. Digital Sunset
From dinner until morning:
No solo scrolling, No work (Unless you are a doctor and someone will die if you ignore). No numbing through entertainment. No disappearing into devices. Family shows together permitted
3. No Reactive Speech
If activated, pause, breathe, then handle.
You are responsible for a controlled response. Reactive speech includes blame, sarcasm, negativity, and soft talk.
4. Daily Ownership Reflection
This can be done in the morning, reflecting on the previous day or it can be done at night, reflecting on the day you just experienced.
Answer:
Did I regulate my responses? If not, what happened? What will I do better next time?
Where did I avoid discomfort? Why did I avoid that? What will I do next time?
Did I act like the man I say I want to be in my Hero’s Commitment? If not, what happened? What could I do differently next time?
No skipping.
